Sabbath Savor #1 | Be Still

Its only been a short time since I’ve embarked on this journey of seeking to hear and obey God’s instructions in regards to my health. Because of my active, rather type-A personality, honestly it’s a little difficult for me to simply stop and listen. I love to be in action–doing, helping, getting stuff done–that is my element. Don’t get me wrong, checking items off your to-do list is definitely not bad, but we also need to have a balance of activity and stillness.

And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Although God’s voice can literally cause earthquakes and fill the whole earth with its volume (Joel 3:16), I believe that He prefers to speak to hearts in that “still, small voice” mentioned in 1 Kings 19:12.

Thus, we must listen keenly for His voice. must keenly listen for His voice.

Be still, and know that I [am] God…” Psalm 46:10

God wants me to take time out of the busyness and complexity of life to simply relax, slow down, and rest in the knowledge that He is God. He created me, loves me, and knows exactly what is best for me. He wants to make me blissfully happy and content in His perfect path. In order to hear and understand His amazing plans for me, and more specifically, my health; I must be still, quiet, and ready for His revelations today.

For He [is] our God, And we [are] the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As [in] the day of trial in the wilderness, Psalm 95:7-8, NKJV (emphasis supplied)

Of course, God’s care is not reserved for me alone, His love and care is for everyone. As the text above so clearly states: He is our  God. He wants you also to rest from your daily activities and in stillness seek to hear His voice and savor His great love, power and ability to skillfully guide your life.

…everyone needs to have a personal experience in obtaining a knowledge of the will of God. We must individually hear Him speaking to the heart. When every other voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes more distinct the voice of God.-The Desire of Ages, 363.3

Today, I am purposed to be still and deeply listen God’s still small voice speaking to me personally. I am seeking to open my mind and heart to all that He may have to say to me today. Wanna join me? 😉

Why is it so important to know that God is God? What does being still mean to you practically? Is it naturally hard for you to quiet down and rest? What is God saying to you today?
